Historical Reports and Tributes

karen babayan

It is with great sorrow that we have to inform about the passing of our dear colleague and long-standing IUSTI-Europe Council member Karen Babayan from Armenia.
Karen was a very active member of the group and will be missed sadly.
Our thoughts are with Karen´s family.

Mpox multi-country outbreak

Over 61000 cases from 111 countries have been reported to WHO by 24 April 2023.

Monkeypox

[19 May 2022]  The 7th of May saw a report of Monkeypox from the UK which heralded a number of clusters which have to date totalled 9 cases.

Some of these are in gay and bisexual men and although human case to case transmission is rare there are worrying features in these clusters that may imply a change in the pathogenic range of the virus. The situation is rapidly evolving and clinicians need to familiarise themselves with the features of this disease since a number of the UK cases presented to departments of sexual health.
For up to date information search through the ECDC, BASHH and IUSTI-Europe websites.
